Abstract FAQs
I’ve submitted my abstract for review, what happens next?
Once the submission window closes, our Awards Team will check all entries to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria and rules for each award. Eligible applications are then forwarded to the Conference Awards Committee for review.
Each abstract is assessed independently by at least two committee members using a standardised scoring framework. If there is a significant difference in scores, a third reviewer will be invited to assess the submission.
After the review process is complete, the highest-scoring abstracts will be invited to present at the BASEM 2026 Conference.
Can I submit more than 1 abstract?
Yes, authors may submit up to three abstracts, provided each represents a distinct piece of work.
However, each individual may only present one abstract at the conference. If more than one of your abstracts is accepted and you wish for them all to be presented, each must have a different presenting author.
Can I submit an abstract after the closing date?
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept late submissions once the application deadline has passed.
If you miss the deadline for 2026, we encourage you to keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on the 2027 call for abstracts.
Can I submit an abstract but not for either or the awards?
Due to limited programme capacity, we are only able to accept abstracts that are submitted as part of one of the two awards. We are therefore unable to consider submissions outside of these categories.
My abstract was successfully chosen to present, what happens next?
Congratulations! If your abstract is selected, a member of the BASEM Awards Team will contact you with a presentation guide outlining all requirements for presenting at the BASEM 2026 Conference.
To confirm your place, the presenting author must register for a two-day conference ticket.
Once all presenters are confirmed, the Awards Team will provide further details, including your presentation time and on-the-day instructions.
My abstract was successfully chosen to present; can I just attend 1 day?
As the judging process takes place across both days of the conference, presentations must be represented on both days. You will be asked to confirm the presenting author’s availability for both days at the time of submission.
That said, we understand that circumstances can change between submission and the conference. If you encounter any difficulties, please contact the Awards Team as soon as possible at awards@basem.co.uk and we will do our best to support you.
