Professor Stefan Kluzek is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise Medicine and Professor of Sports Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (North Carolina, USA), with an honorary appointment at the University of Oxford (UK). He trained in internal medicine before specialising in Sport and Exercise Medicine. At Oxford he completed an MSc and a DPhil in musculoskeletal science, followed by a postdoctoral clinical lectureship, with research focused on post-traumatic synovitis and the role of inflammatory pathways in early knee osteoarthritis.

His research centres on phenotyping for targeted intervention in common musculoskeletal conditions, including biomarkers, inflammatory pathways and metabolic drivers of disease. He leads the systematic collection of data in routine clinics to develop clinical risk tools that support individualised decisions on treatment. He has led and contributed to multi-centre clinical studies on knee injury, early osteoarthritis and joint health, and works on translational projects that bridge laboratory science, imaging and clinical practice. He has published widely in sport and exercise medicine, osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal ageing, and collaborates internationally with academic, clinical and industry partners.
